Laconia Motorcycle Week 2026: The Granddaddy of Them All

  • Dates: June 13 – 21, 2026
  • Location: Laconia, New Hampshire (Rally HQ: Lakeside Avenue, Weirs Beach)
  • Official Website: Laconia Motorcycle Week
  • Anniversary: 103rd edition β€” running since 1916

Bikers on their bikes at a Bike Week

Holy mother of chrome β€” Laconia is where it all began. Long before Sturgis, long before Daytona, riders were rolling into the New Hampshire Lakes Region on what they called Gypsy Tours back in 1916. That makes Laconia the oldest national motorcycle rally in the United States, and 2026 marks the 103rd edition. Lake Winnipesaukee’s crystal waters, the White Mountains as backdrop, nine straight days of riding β€” this is postcard-perfect motorcycle country.

Over 300,000 riders are expected to descend on the Lakes Region this June. Whether you’ve never been or you’ve ridden Laconia a dozen times, here’s what you need to know to get the most out of 2026.

Why Laconia Hits Different

Daytona has the beach. Sturgis has the Black Hills. Laconia has something neither of them can touch: scale and intimacy at the same time. The rally centers around Weirs Beach, where the famous boardwalk on Lakeside Avenue becomes Rally HQ β€” but the real magic happens when you spread out across the lakes, the mountains, and the covered bridges of New England. You can be in the middle of the chaos at noon and on an empty mountain road by 3.

The other thing: Laconia is one of the three official “national” rallies in the US, alongside Daytona and Sturgis. But it’s the only one with this much green, this much water, and this kind of riding terrain. You came for the bikes β€” you’ll leave talking about the roads.

🎬 Born to Ride β€” My Music Video for the Biker World

Before we get into the battle plan, here’s my music video Born to Ride β€” built around the spirit of every Bike Week I’ve ever filmed. This one sets the tone for what Laconia is really about.

🏍️ INSIDER TIP β€” The Air-Cooled Bike Trap
Laconia passed an ordinance years ago that prohibits shutting off your engine while idling in traffic. Combined with the stop-and-go gridlock on Route 3 into Weirs Beach, this is a recipe for overheating an air-cooled engine. Locals know the move: park early, walk the boardwalk, ride out in the evening. Cruising around revving for clout will cook your motor. Don’t be that guy.

My Laconia 2026 Battle Plan

Here are the events I’d build my week around:

  • Peter Makris Memorial Ride (Saturday, June 13): The official rally kick-off. Departs from the Naswa Resort with a group ride around Lake Winnipesaukee, followed by a lakeside celebration. Arrive early to get a good spot in the formation.
  • Tower Street Hill Climb Exposition (Tuesday): A spectator favorite β€” pros taking on the legendary climb right in downtown Laconia. Insane to watch up close.
  • Gunstock Hill Climb (Wednesday, June 17): The AMA-sanctioned Pro-Amateur Hill Climb at Gunstock Mountain Resort. Riders battle their way up the 70-meter Torger Tokle Memorial Ski Jump hill. 15 classes of competitors. Some make it, some don’t β€” that’s the show. Admission $30, free for kids 10 and under.
  • New Hampshire Motor Speedway (June 13–20): Demo rides daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on a nearly 9-mile route. USCRA FIM North American Vintage Championships running on track. Vendors, camping, food β€” this is a destination on its own during the week.
  • 103rd Loudon Classic (June 19–21): The headline race weekend at NHMS, capping off the rally. The Middleweight Grand Prix is the centerpiece β€” this is the oldest motorcycle road race in America and an absolute must-see for any rider.
  • Mount Washington Auto Road: Not for beginners. This climb to the highest peak in the Northeast will test your skills and your nerves. Weather changes fast at the top.
  • Weirs Beach Boardwalk: Rally HQ on Lakeside Avenue. The action explodes here every evening β€” bands, vendors, and bikes packed in tight.

🏍️ INSIDER TIP β€” Demo Ride Timing
The demo rides at NH Motor Speedway sell out fast and lines balloon by noon. Two timing rules from riders who do this every year:
β€’ Indian Scouts: Be in line by 9 a.m.
β€’ Harley-Davidson 9-mile route: Be in line by 10 a.m.
Show up at lunchtime and you’re done. DOT helmet, eye protection, and closed-toe shoes are non-negotiable β€” they’ll turn you away without them.

🎬 What a Real Bike Week Looks Like β€” My Daytona 2026 Footage

Same spirit, different rally β€” here’s my footage from Daytona Bike Week 2026, Friday on Main Street. Original sound, no commentary, no filters. This is exactly the kind of coverage I’ll bring back from Laconia.

The Rides That’ll Wreck You (In the Best Way)

If you only do the rally events, you’re missing half the experience. Laconia is about the routes you take to and from the action. My picks:

  • Kancamagus Highway (Route 112): 34 miles of pure New England riding through the White Mountain National Forest. Tight curves, scenic overlooks, no commercial development the entire length. Keep your eyes on those corners β€” they don’t forgive.
  • Lake Winnipesaukee Loop: A full circle around the lake. The Peter Makris Memorial Ride covers it β€” but doing it on your own gives you time to actually stop at the lookouts.
  • Bentley’s Saloon Run (Arundel, ME): The 140-mile round trip from Laconia out to Bentley’s, then Route 1A along the Atlantic coast, then back. One of the rides veterans plan their whole week around.
  • Sandwich Notch Road: Unpaved sections in spots, but the views through the notch are worth every mile. Not for cruisers loaded heavy.

🏍️ INSIDER TIP β€” Skip the Gridlock on Route 11A
Route 3 into Weirs Beach is a parking lot from Friday afternoon through Sunday. Locals use Route 11A instead β€” it runs along the eastern side of Lake Winnipesaukee and gets you to the boardwalk without the misery. The other rule: fuel up before the Kancamagus. There are zero gas stations along the 34-mile stretch. Top off in Lincoln on the west end or Conway on the east before you start, or you’ll be coasting downhill on fumes.

What Locals Won’t Tell Tourists

  • Gunstock chairlift photo ops: The mountain resort runs scenic chairlift rides during Bike Week β€” you can get your bike up to the photo zones for shots most riders never bother with.
  • Ice cream is a Lakes Region religion: Dozens of family-run shops scattered around. Perfect cool-down stop on the hot days.
  • Friday the 13th = opening day in 2026: Expect tattoo shops across the area to run special Friday-the-13th deals. New Hampshire is one of the easiest states to walk in and get inked at a rally.
  • Naswa Resort: Even if you’re not staying there, the lakeside bar is one of the best rally hangs in town.
  • Weekday mornings beat weekend afternoons: If you want photos of the Weirs Beach boardwalk without 50 phones in your shot, ride down early Monday or Tuesday.

🏍️ INSIDER TIP β€” The PMMR T-Shirt Hack
The Peter Makris Memorial Ride hands out a David Uhl-designed commemorative T-shirt to the first 150 pre-registered riders, plus access to the post-ride BBQ at Naswa Resort. Walk-ups don’t get one. Pre-register online before the rally if you want the shirt β€” veterans wear theirs for years as a badge of honor. VIP packages run around $75 and let you lead the pack, with proceeds going to veterans charities.

🏍️ INSIDER TIP β€” Gunstock Hill Climb Game Plan
Gates open at 8 a.m. on Wednesday. Be there by 7:30 a.m. to snag base-area views β€” that’s where you see the wipeouts and the saves close up. Bring earplugs (those engines are no joke), a zoom lens, and a cooler β€” BYOB is allowed. No pets, no drones, no umbrellas, no glass bottles. Stay for the Eastcoastin’ Crew stunt shows and the Deadbeat Customs bike show between climb rounds.

🏍️ INSIDER TIP β€” Ethanol-Free Fuel and Wet Seats
Two things old-timers swear by:
β€’ Ethanol-free fuel stations are scattered around the Lakes Region and worth seeking out β€” your bike runs cleaner and starts easier the next morning, especially if it sits overnight in the rain.
β€’ It rains at least once during every Laconia week. Locals say it’s never not rained. Pack rain gear on top, and bring a seat cover for your leather seat overnight. Nobody wants to start the day with a wet ass.

Practical Stuff That Matters

  • Weather: June in New Hampshire can swing from 85Β°F sunny to 50Β°F and raining in the mountains. Pack layers. Rain gear is non-negotiable.
  • Lodging: Book early or expect campgrounds only. The Lakes Region fills up months ahead. Many riders base out of Meredith, Gilford, or Tilton if Laconia itself is full. NHMS infield camping right at the Speedway is a Laconia classic β€” already getting bookings for 2026.
  • Cost: Most of the rally is free to walk around and enjoy. NHMS events, Gunstock Hill Climb, and ticketed shows have entry fees. Budget $30–$50 per event you actually pay into.
  • Police presence: Massive β€” departments from across New England and even Canada show up. They’re friendly but firm. Some surrounding towns enforce stricter decibel limits than Laconia itself. Keep it respectful in residential areas and everyone has a great week.
  • Helmet law: New Hampshire has no mandatory helmet law for adults β€” “Live Free or Die” applies. But smart riders gear up regardless, and demo rides require DOT-approved helmets.

🏍️ INSIDER TIP β€” Free Museum Visit for Pre-1970 Riders
If you’re rolling on a pre-1970 motorcycle, ride it to the American Police Motorcycle Museum during Bike Week and get a free museum gift. It’s one of those quiet traditions tourists never hear about. Even if your bike is newer, the museum is worth the stop β€” it’s the kind of place you only find at a rally that’s been running for a century.
